When it comes to frozen pizza from the grocery store, meat is king. For every veggie pizza you\u2019re bound to come across five pepperoni, sausage, or meat-lovers pies. DiGiorno even makes something called a STACKED Piled High Pepperoni pizza that is quite literally piled with more pepperoni than it seems like a person should reasonably consume. In fact, more and more vegetarian pizza features some form of fake meat<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this taste test, we were looking for veggie<\/em> pizzas, i.e. pizzas that are topped with vegetables and only vegetables. I know, I know. You\u2019re like, \u201cBut so many veggie pizzas are not good!\u201d And, yes, they can definitely have their faults. Frozen vegetables hold a lot of water, and when they\u2019re heated in the oven, they can tend to release that water without crisping up. But we promise, the best frozen veggie pizza isn\u2019t soggy and gross\u2014especially if you keep it in the oven a little longer than the cooking instructions suggest. The vegetables are firm and flavorful. Honestly, if you\u2019re not big on vegetables, veggie pizza is a good way to eat a bunch at once. These are the best veggie pizzas we tasted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my opinion, this frozen veggie pizza suffers from a lack of vegetables. But it makes up for what it lacks in veggie toppings by having a veggie-based crust that is just so good\u2014thin, crispy, and flavorful, with just a little bit of chew. The veggies\u2014zucchini, bell peppers, and onions\u2014claim to be roasted, but they don\u2019t really bring that roasty flavor or much of any flavor at all. That said, I think you can season this one up with some garlic powder and grated parm. It\u2019s definitely not the best veggie pizza we tried, but it\u2019s the best cauliflower crust option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open Nature is a generic brand sold at Albertsons (and its many, many sister stores<\/a>) and, I gotta say, I generally really like their pizzas. Their Three Cheese cauliflower crust pie made our list of the best cauliflower crust pizzas<\/a> and I always have one in my freezer at home to top as I please (usually with mushrooms and thinly sliced onions). Because Open Nature pizzas are generally cheaper than name brand frozen pies, I was absolutely stunned by the sheer amount of feta on this Mediterranean-style pizza. Seriously, the pizza itself probably costs around seven bucks, but there\u2019s, like, eight dollars of feta on this thing. The salty bite of the feta tastes great with the veggies (spinach, onions, peppers, and mushrooms) and the creamy, garlicky sauce that\u2019s smeared on the crust in lieu of tomato sauce. The crust isn\u2019t anything to get excited about\u2014it\u2019s super thin, almost like a whole wheat cracker\u2014but it\u2019s a lovely bite of food all the same, and the best frozen veggie pizza by a mile if you really love feta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know, I thought this frozen pizza would earn the superlative of \u201cBest Sauce\u201d because it\u2019s Rao\u2019s, and Rao\u2019s makes some of the best tomato sauces at the grocery store<\/a>. But while the sauce is very good\u2014bold and salty and flavorful\u2014the crust is the real show-stopper here. It\u2019s stretchy, pillowy, and has just the right amount of crunch. My colleague Jordan Myrick<\/a> said, \u201cI would eat this crust as a breadstick if there were nothing on it.\u201d The mix of veggies is really nice, too: red onions, mushrooms, peppers, and tomatoes (although, they could probably ditch the tomatoes, to be honest). Mostly, this loses points for being covered in so much<\/em> dried oregano. It\u2019s like the lid came off the shaker at the factory. Still, it\u2019s one of the best veggie pizzas we tasted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you like leafy greens, you\u2019ll like this. It\u2019s very earthy tasting because it\u2019s covered in a lot of spinach. Maybe a little too much for my personal taste, but I appreciate the bold approach to a frozen vegetable pizza. Lean into it! Along with spinach, it\u2019s topped with zucchini, eggplant, and peppers\u2014with all those water-dense veggies, this one definitely benefited from an extra few minutes in the ol\u2019 oven. The crust comes out nice and crispy and the cheese browned well, too. It\u2019s the best veggie pizza for true veggie lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I told a vegetarian friend that this was the best frozen veggie pizza we tried during our taste test, her reply was something to the effect of, \u201cI\u2019m dubious.\u201d Understandable! Trader Joe\u2019s doesn\u2019t always nail frozen pizza, but this one is sensational. They don\u2019t even mention it on the front of the box, but it\u2019s dotted with a creamy, tasty condiment referred to in the ingredients as \u201corganic cheese sauce.\u201d It\u2019s a really nice touch that adds an extra layer of flavor to this veggie-rich pie. Along with mozzarella and the cheese sauce, it\u2019s also topped with red onions, eggplant, zucchini, and red and yellow peppers. Even though the veggies looked a little raw and wet when we took the pie out of the oven, they were extremely flavorful (the eggplant spears were my personal favorite). The crust is crispy and well salted, and the tomato sauce is bright and fresh tasting. All in all, an excellent pie and the best frozen veggie pizza we tasted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
